Real Second Amendment Curriculum Could be Headed to High Schools Soon
3+ hour, 3+ min ago (492+ words) All eyes are turning toward the University of Wyoming, which recently received nearly $1 million in federal dollars to create Second Amendment curriculum for high school students that "highlights ongoing debates about firearms education in American schools and the federal government's role in shaping how constitutional issues are taught," according to a UW press release. The U.S. Department of Education awarded a $908,991 grant to the college this year to develop what university officials have promised would be "historically grounded school curriculum on the Second Amendment." The money came from more than $137 million in federal funds that were redirected by President Donald L. Trump. The 16th-ranked Red Raiders (7-2) and No. 17 Razorbacks (7-2) tangle on Saturday at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, nine months after a memorable showdown in the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16. Texas Tech walked off the floor in San Francisco that night with an 85-83 victory after erasing a 16-point second-half deficit that ended Arkansas' bid for a deep Cinderella run. The Razorbacks insisted this week that revenge is their only motivation, but they also remember that night and the gut-wrenching feelings that followed. "It's a regular game for us," Arkansas guard Karter Knox said. He scored 20 points vs. the Red Raiders in the last…...
Midwestern scientists join global effort to study extreme drought in grasslands
3+ hour, 34+ min ago (1008+ words) Both the length and intensity of drought can work together to have cumulative, negative effects on grasslands, according to a new global study published in Science. An international group of scientists ran the same drought study across six continents, including sites in Kansas, Minnesota, Oklahoma and Texas. They imposed extreme drought conditions for four years in a row to find out what these conditions do to a diverse array of grasslands and shrublands. "With changing climate, particularly atmospheric warming, we're expecting to see more extreme events such as droughts, but those events are likely to be longer in duration," said Colorado State University Professor Melinda Smith, who co-led the study and worked on multiple sites, including one near Manhattan, Kansas. Smith and her team brought together a network of scientists from around the world to study drought, using a research…...
